Christian Hip Hop trio G.I. Wonder? is entering the homestretch in producing its debut album Paid the Price. The group, featuring the talents of Chris Cross, Mike Creammz and Willy Cook, will be offering the album free of charge on major streaming platforms and YouTube. G.I. Wonder? initially targeted a September release, but since production quality is important, pushed the date back.
“We have a large portion of it finished, but we want to make sure it’s right!” Mike Creammz told CM. “It’s mainly technical issues. Equipment deficiency has been an obstacle. I’m sure it won’t be long before it’s done.”

As it reads in Galatians 5:22, “Patience is trusting God to keep His promises in His perfect timing.” However, in the natural it’s more like, “Get that album out, I can’t stand the suspense!” But since CM is a Christian arts and entertainment magazine, we’ll stick with Galatians 5:22. Amen!

According to Willy Cook, technical issues aren’t the only challenge during the production of their first album. There’s a more nefarious obstacle lurking in the shadows.

“I'd say the spiritual battle, more specifically, separating the music itself from the reason why we are doing the music, focusing on why we are doing it the first place,” Cook told CM. “That presents the most challenges, in my opinion.”

G.I. Wonder? structures itself on delivering the message of Christ through lyricism, creativity, and melodic music. The group was founded in May, 2014, when Cross moved in with brothers, Willy Cook and Mike Creammz. Since then, the explosion of the digital age has been a real game-changer in advancement for G.I. Wonder? and the indie Christian music industry.

“Technology is so vital right now. I think it’s helping Christian artists more than anything,” Creammz said. “The ability to distribute your work on multiple streaming sites, in addition to promoting it with social media pretty much speaks for itself. The world has gone digital. Our message will never change, but the method has to be consistent with the times.”

Their debut album Paid The Price is a double entendre conveying the symbolic ultimate price Jesus paid for humanity.

“I feel like a lot of those Christians [in music production] got too caught up in tradition and religion, and in doing so missed an entire window for a new form of ministry to be unveiled,” Creammz explained. “We understand that this method definitely isn’t for everyone, but it certainly is for others.”

The trio’s album will be all new, previously unreleased, material. G.I. Wonder? plans to create a documentary video about the making of Paid the Price which they will release prior to the album. According to Mike Creammz, none of the new songs have been performed before an audience. But, they have a concert scheduled in October that undoubtedly will highlight songs from the album.
