Christian comedian Juanita Lolita is stepping off the stage of live performance and into the world of movie land. The Sunshine State funny girl is appearing in her first feature film, Always with You, produced by Rock House Productions LLC.
Producer/screenwriter Ranelle Golden’s project, directed by John Kouromihelakis, is based on a concept by Susan Meister. The movie stars Allison Meister, René Mena, Sump James, Bryson JonSteele, Dennis Mallen and Danielle J. Bowman, among others.
“Always with You: A living legacy of love, inspires us to realize our loved ones who have passed, remain with us in spirit,” Ranelle Golden told CM. “In the film, people who are nearing the end of their life leave messages behind, for their loved ones to have once they are gone. Messages that can be watched again and again, shared with family.”
“The movie is a Christian-based film dealing with death and those you leave behind,” Juanita Lolita told CM. “I played the part of Daisy, an older woman who is dying of breast cancer. And she is leaving a video for her daughter to see after she is gone.”
“Juanita nailed her audition,” Golden said. “So many people had auditioned for this role, when we saw her we knew she was our Daisy. It was small, but powerful.”
While her role as Daisy is anything but comedic, the new actress expressed that it was a joy becoming part of the project.
“It was extremely fun! And the fulfillment of a bucket list item!” she said. “I've always wanted to be an actress, and stepping out in faith to do comedy, God brought me to be in a movie!”
“We were thrilled with Juanita's ability to become this character,” Golden said. “We can't wait for the world to see her performance, as well as everyone else's in the film.”
The Always with You producer stated they are currently in the process of completing post-production on the film.
“And then we will take it to market,” Golden said. “We will be locking in a premiere date for this coming January, in the Tampa Bay area.”
Golden shared that a new poster for Always with You will be ready this week, and that before the month is over, a web page dedicated to the film should be online.
Are there any future movies up the road for Juanita Lolita?
“Only if any of your [producer] readers want to put me in one!” the comedian said.
Not that the funny girl isn’t busy enough already, with plenty of live, stand-up comedy shows on her schedule. She’s also entertaining the notion of a new comedy DVD.
“I'm looking for a church that would consider having me, and filming a new DVD for me,” Lolita said. “I would perform in exchange for a good DVD :) the one I had is older.”
