When Dray Hill founded Churchouse Productions he didn’t imagine it being anything more than a music production company. That was until the Lord redirected him by placing a motion picture in his heart. That picture, Welcome to Faith-Town Real Love, won 2019 Best Feature Film at the Glory Reelz Christian Film Festival on November 8.
In a celebratory a post on Facebook that Friday evening announcing the win, Dray Hill thanked the Lord for “gathering a wonderful cast of 33 people to make Welcome to Faith-Town Real Love become a reality.”
His list of names and supporters included: Daniel Jeffries, Jala Buckley, Cornelius Sims, Stacey Sims, Gerald Ervin, Carol Ervin, Carmen Greer, Natalie Hayes, Natasha Anée, Dru Wes, Kelli Renee Williams, Copastorladyj Ivory, Delisha Thomas, Robin Darlene Davis, Linda Morgan, Ann Alexander, Lateef Wright, Eddie Kidd, Gerard Brooks, Recie Waire, Andre Archer, Odeather Hill, Reesha Paulding, Brianne McGill, Andre Da Hero, Airess Hill, Aaron Hill, Fedora Pruitt, Mac Anderson, Jayla Potts, Logan Pickett, Tracey Dorsey and Dana Davis.
Hill also thanked his church, Unity Temple, and “many more people!”
“I mostly I want to give honor to my late wife, Gayle Hill, for pushing me when I was ready to give up,” the award-winning filmmaker and Gospel musician wrote. “And to the Lord Jesus for the inspiration and faith to move forward!”
Hill’s wife, Gayle Rena Hill, went to be with the Lord on March 4 this year. The couple were married for nearly 26 years.
Reaching out to Hill the morning after the 2019 Best Feature Film win, the producer told CM he met many filmmakers at the Glory Reelz Christian Film Festival from across the nation, that it was a combination of “magnificent films and humble personalities.”
“It was a great honor to be in the company of such faith-filled believers,” said Hill, the genius behind the highly creative and groundbreaking new series The Rapture Chronicles. “I was very honored to be chosen to lead this film and very honored for the caliber of actors that came aboard and made this film what it is.”
Hill talked about Welcome to Faith-Town Real Love just days before its win in an episode of Keeping Up with the Christians released on Saturday, November 9. He shared in the interview with Creative Motion Online editor and show’s host, Kristen Collier, how it was the Lord that put the Faith-Town motion picture in his heart. Hill said, “If it was my choice, it would just all be music.”
But it wasn’t his choice, and he was a good spiritual listener.
“The Lord sent extra directing help, and through that, it helped me to learn a lot from the movie-making process,” Hill said. “It is very exciting to see how God is moving me into this industry and ministry!”
Hill returned to the Glory Reelz Christian Film Festival as one of the workshop panelists. Congratulations to Mr. Hill and his amazing team.
